Hand-Turned Spalted Maple Bowl
Add a touch of nature's elegance to your home with this Spalted Maple bowl from Woodchuck Woodworks. Each bowl we make is one of a kind and reveals the natural beauty of the wood.
Dimensions: 9 inches across x 3 inches tall
Finish: Treated with a special blend of utility beeswax and walnut oil for a natural, food-safe luster.
What is Spalting? Spalting in wood occurs as the wood naturally begins to rot, resulting in fungi leaving mineral deposits during the aging process. The captivating black zone line spalting is when different fungi engage in a "battle," which resembles intricate graffiti lines. In this specific bowl white rot also is present and resembles white splotches, almost as if bleach splattered the wood. Once the wood is completely dry the fungi die but the beautiful patterns they created get left behind.
Versatile and Timeless: Perfect for serving salads, snacks, or as a standalone decorative piece. The natural variations in wood grain make this bowl a one-of-a-kind addition to your home.
Care Instructions: To maintain its beauty, hand wash with mild soap and water. Periodically reapply a food-grade mineral oil (or walnut oil) and wax mix for long-lasting protection.
